After 4 or more years from university you work for a company for 3years or more, you have spent time to hone your skills set and you’re good at what you offer to your current job. Everyone applauds you and you are deemed fit to work for any good company. Then the call finally came from no where offering you a job opportunity, your dream job, with better salary and working conditions that suits your capabilities and ambitions. Are you going to stick to the first job because they gave you the first opportunity for moral reasons or ditch them to grab your career ambition? Heck no. You make the proper business decision and go with the best offer, because that’s all it is; a business decision. Your friends don’t berate or call you names for leaving your old company. You found a better deal, of course you took it. They celebrate you rather in this case.
The fact of the matter is, no one wants to suffer. Suffering is the last thing people would pick if there’s a better offer. And this brings us to the door step of the Hypergamy Theory aka the Theory of Better offer.
Just like the job opportunity aforementioned, people enter into relationships for happiness and nothing more. We seek for leverage anywhere we find ourselves, no matter what. Hence there’s nothing like unconditional love. You must offer something to demand something. I’ve always maintained that every man or woman has a price tag. This price tag goes beyond money; in fact, it could just be a ‘mere’ smile, the way one walks or character/attitude.
Different people want different things and will choose the way they pick up relationships or job opportunities. Someone may want to stay with an already established company that offers security for the long term. Others will want to be with a startup company with the flexibility and a prospect of better future. These decisions are entirely dependent on the individual and at what stage s/he is in life. Some people will date what we term as already-made partner to feel secured. Another one will want to pick a partner from the scratch and grow up with him/her. These decisions are entirely dependent on what the partner offers that’s different from those available in the market.
Most of us spend our entire lives grooming ourselves and we feel secured when we meet the right person, until you meet that person whom you’re grooming yourself for, you’ll show no remorse when you’re ditching one partner for another, because it’s entirely business. I have a skill and you must compensate me in one way or the other with what I want and you’ll be my better offer; vice versa.
Every now and then, you’ll often see women complaining on social media, that her boyfriend left her for someone ugly. Ugly! Seriously? It’s beyond that, you came into the relationship with only beauty and that’s not the price tag of that man. He’s seen a good character in the ugly girl he’s now with which cuts it for him as the price.
Guys too will complain: she left me for one poor guy. Smh! Dude, you came in rich with money but poor in character and her price tag was rich in character. So you lost to the highest bidder.
So, your girlfriend/boyfriend is still with you because you’re considered the best offer. Never insult your friend for jilting his/her partner. They’re still searching for the better offer.
P.s This is just my observation and may not be the “whole truth”. Do not use this as a yardstick to go on your own “foolish” amorous activities
