Hi darlings, how are we doing? And before I continue, I apologize to my lovely subscribers for missing two weeks of blog post  notifications from me 😄. I know it’s not cool but eh I was going through some stuff and needed a clear head but hey I’m here so forgive me ? Please 🥺

So how was your weekend? Was it same old same old or you did something different? Was it a sad one , happy ? Or just indifferent about it ?

Well lemme tell you mine and the lessons I took away from my weekend. (I’m a firm believer in life’s teaching moments i.e every situation is an opportunity for learning or to learn) are you too ?

Up on till Friday morning, I just had one major item on my calendar for the weekend: an outing with my girl Olivia on Sunday ! I was looking forward to that outing because nothing better than sipping on some good cocktails and endless champagne with one of girlfriends.

On Friday morning before I went to work , I had to do a quick meet up with my friend Yayra at University of Ghana Sports complex .

Please note I hadn’t seen Yayra in years (like 3yrs) (can you blame us ? Accra living)🤣.

Mehn guys when I saw Yayra , I was bowled over ! You know you see pictures of people on their WhatsApp status and other social media accounts looking really peng , slim and fine but you’re cautious about believing it because photoshop is bae? 😄

So even though I had been seeing Yayra’s pictures, I thought it was one of those good angles photos till I saw her on Friday and she looked proper fit ! She lost some good weight and was looking peng !

She attributed her fit look to the tennis activity she had been undertaking.

I was extremely impressed!

Right there and then , I decided I was going to learn how to play tennis too ! Please note that I have never been the sporty type : never done any sports activities in my life so not only was this a crazy idea , it was also going to be very challenging .

In my mind , I was going to start in the middle of November but Yayra said why wait that long ? Start on Sunday morning! I was like hei, Sunday morning how ? I don’t have rackets, I don’t have abcd (you know excuses)? Lmao, Yayra wasn’t going to allow me to fluff around with my decision so we agreed Sunday morning 6:30am sharp , we would meet at Legon sports complex to start my foray into becoming the African Serena Williams.😂.

Sunday morning I was the first person to get there , I was too excited to sleep ! That’s how eager I was !

Yayra was surprised, she thought I was going to disappoint but no oo, if you know how I have been struggling with my weight for years , this eagerness shouldn’t surprise you at all, any means to shed the weight, I’m in !

Initially, it was difficult, I couldn’t even hit a ball, I kept missing and missing 😫, 5-8yr old kids were doing this effortlessly but if you know me , you would know I have no shame especially when it comes to learning and I was determined to at least achieve one significant skill in tennis before I called it a day  .

And although I didn’t leave the court any close to Serena status , I was proud of myself! This was Abena who had never been a sports person and yet I was following through with this decision and doing well ( if I say so myself)🤣.

Watch the video and enjoy it as much as I did .

Now the late afternoon outing was with Olivia and I had suggested Sandbox located at Labadi because their Instagram page was popping and promised a good time . Olivia was the first to get there and sent me a distress message: “the place was closed for a private party till 6pm!”

Ha, this was about 3:30pm, so what were we supposed to do? I mean I had planned this especially taking of pictures which needed the sun to give it the glam look .

Olivia was distraught but I reassured her no worries, we would enter before 6pm.

When I got to Sandbox, just before I parked, I saw some of the partygoers leaving so I engaged them in a conversation (mind you, these were total strangers) and managed to get the name of the celebrant out of them. Lol

So when we got to the entrance and were about turning us back because private party, I confidently mentioned the celebrant name and we were ushered in as the ‘guest’ we were 😄.

I turned to Olivia and gave her the I told you so look. 😉

And we blended in so well for whatever occasion it was (never bothered to find out) .

Anyways as ‘guests’, we were treated to free buffet of food (which really tasted good ) , mingled with invited guests and generally enjoyed our gate crashing time

Another plus of getting in early was  unhindered access to the cabana before they opened up the place to regulars at 6pm. Apparently, this cabana is given to their VVIPS or big spenders(GHC2000 and more or about $400 and more )and we were neither of the above.

We really had a swell time catching up, talking about our future, our challenges and everything friends talk about.

It was such a great evening and I got home happy!

The events of my weekend gave me new insights and reinforced some of what I already knew :

  1. You’re never ever too old too start something new , all you need is you and your will to succeed.

  2. Starting something new is never easy but giving up also isn’t an option so which would you rather be ? The doer or the quitter?

  3. Money is an enabler but confidence is a  leveler . You might be rich and yet be denied access to some places but a confident person would be given a 5 ⭐️ treatment.

  4. Ability to think on your feet is a skill you must strive to master

  5. Always dress well ! Anytime you look sloppy or anyhow , that’s money and opportunity you’re leaving on the table . Grooming is essential part of adulting

  6. Have fun, be spontaneous and do the things considered crazy .

So tell me , how was your weekend?! I want to know all about it so please do tell me in the comments section.

Have you done something new or fun lately?

What do you think about my insights from my weekend? You agree or not ?
